Wellness in Action (WiA) is hosting a Symposium for Mental Health Providers of Color to create a strong and intentional network of support for mental health providers of color. Participants will gather in a within-group sanctuary to generate creative exploration, networking, and support to empower and increase resources in the field.
REGROUND will bring together at least 150 mental health providers of color (currently there is an attending waiting list) with aspiring mental health providers from refugee and immigrant communities in the Bay Area to network and connect.
REGROUND aims to generate resources and a vision for the future rooted in respect for diversity; and empower all diverse communities by promoting culturally relevant services.
9:00 - 10:00 Networking Breakfast Diversity Bingo Tabling A playful and meaningful opportunity for participants to visit tables and get to know other Symposium participants who will be in their community dialogue group.
10:00-10:30 Opening ceremony Maria Gonzalez-Blue Honoring the land Opening speech to center the day Invoking the directions Acknowledge the Ohlone land and everyone present in the room and set intentions for the day.
10:30 -12:30 Collective visioning and art making. Activity led by Miguel Martinez, Kiona Medina, Patricia Rojas-Zambrano.
12:30 - 1:30 Lunch Tabling and networking opportunities. Visit Tree of life table of Oakland International High School students and Young Leaders (YL4CW)
1:30 - 3:30 Community Dialogues Part I: Talking Circle format. Part II: focus on collectively identifying common ground, resources and beyond. This is an opportunity for sharing and listening about participants experiences as providers, community leaders and people of color. Share your #REGROUND takeaways process.
3:45 - 4:15 Report back Groups report back on closing question from Community Dialogues. Led by Maria Gonzalez Blue
4:15 - 4:30 Closing Drumming circle Expressing gratitude for process. Leave RE-GROUNDED and RE-SOURCED
4:30 - Clean up Pick up any garbage, food left-overs and recyclable materials. REGROUND was designed to be a zero-waste event.
